Mfgs Emergency
Response Guides
Hats off to the vehicle manufacturers
for producing detailed emergency response guides for their Hybrid models. The
ERG's really do contain everything you can imagine on most all Hybrid Vehicles
out there today.
What we discovered after going through
thousands of ERG pages was that many of the high voltage shut down procedures,
shut down switch locations and various other items pertaining to issues First
Responders have to face daily were not the same.
For example did you know?
-
Some Hybrid Vehicle High Voltage
cables/wires are Orange, some of the Hybrid cables are blue, and some are
yellow.
-
12 volt auxiliary batteries are not all
located under the hood or in the trunk, and some are not even under the rear
seat where one would expect to find it as a last resort, right?
-
Remote high voltage shut down/disable
and service switches, knobs and pull handles are not only designed differently
from one another but are also found in different locations.
-
Even electric and manual trunk openers
are still placed in the weirdest spots?
If it's not under the seat, try the glove box! Not there? look next to the
steering column on the dash. Can't see it? Open that little door built in to the
dash. Whoop! there it is! - I often wonder if they are running contests on some
of this stuff to confuse First Responders as in, Who can hide it the best!
-
Some of the Hybrids can be jump started
without jumper cables which is great, but the procedures of each vary,
and locations of the push buttons necessary to perform the jump start
(re-energizing) of the systems vary.
-
Many have remote jump start hookup
terminals to make things a little easier for Road Service Remote Terminal jump
start locations are not in the same place.
-
Some statements by the manufacturers
say 'Don't go near a submerged Hybrid! less you know for sure that it is shut
down/ disabled and the High Voltage Battery is basically done fizzling' while
others say go right ahead and jump right in the water, (nothing to worry about)
get it up on land then proceed to complete your mission.
The above reasons and many
more alike is why we produced our short version quick reference field guides.
It's time you had a quick, step by step procedure guide you can count on! Click
